Polly is available to give talks and illustrated presentations on a wide range of topics relating to the natural world and Scotland’s wildlife, from red squirrels and wildlife rehabilitation, to the importance of habitat restoration, as well as those relating specifically to her books. Renowned for her humorous anecdotes, talks can be adapted to the specific requirements of a particular group or age range.
If you need a speaker for a particular event Polly has a wide range of wildlife-related topics and can hopefully tailor something to suit your particular requirement. She also enjoys working with school children and doing library events. Her book-related talks are Live Literature funded by the Scottish Book Trust. If appropriate, organisers may be able to secure funding through this excellent scheme.
Prices for talks vary depending on the particular group or event in order to make them accessible to all. However, travel costs will always be charged. In some cases a donation for wildlife rehabilitation work may be appropriate in lieu of payment.
Now as part of the team of rewilding advocacy and communications organisation, SCOTLAND: The Big Picture (SBP) I will be available to deliver an exciting new presentation.
The Red Squirrel – A Future in the Forest, is a breath-taking celebration of this glorious arboreal acrobat illustrated with world-class images from the team at SBP. Packed with natural history facts, and anecdotes, it also highlights the vital importance of woodland restoration to secure the future of this much-loved endangered mammal and the other creatures that share its world. The presentation also includes a poignant short film on the story of three tiny squirrels, received at only 3 days of age and the ensuing work to rear them to eventual release back into the wild.
Set against a backdrop of stunning imagery, this show will provide an informative and inspiring experience for meetings, conferences and events.

Mallaig’s Book Festival at The West Highland Hotel, Mallaig
In 2016 Polly became the co-founder of A Write Highland Hoolie, Mallaig’s Book Festival. The event takes place again from Friday 6th-Sunday 8th November 2020, and we look forward to a fabulous line-up of authors as well as great food and music. In 2019 we were thrilled to expand our events into both the local primary and High Schools and to work once again with Fort William’s superb independent Highland Bookshop. More exciting dedicated children’s events are planned for 2020 as we firmly believe that helping forge a love of reading is one of the best things we can do for the younger generation. As before, all the main events will take place in the comfort of the West Highland Hotel from where on fine days – and yes there are plenty, a fabulous panorama unfolds on Rum, Eigg, Muck, and the jagged outline of the Cuillins of Skye. Whatever our fickle climate brings us, we guarantee that our Hoolie will be a joyous weekend celebration of books, music, fine food, and great craic, for this is what sets us apart.
